5 Farmhouse Style Porch Decorating Ideas for Spring & Summer

Your front porch is your entryway into your home, so you want it to be a welcoming space that gives a first great impression. Whether your porch is small or large, we have some ideas that will make it the envy of your neighbors this spring and summer.

1 | Containers & Greenery

The heart of your front porch décor will be your choice of containers with the greenery, plants, and flowers you love. If you have a green thumb, great. If not, realistic looking faux florals will look amazing on your porch. For spring and summer, we love ferns, wild grass, lilac stems, lavender, hydrangeas, and sunflowers, just to mention a few. Choose planters and other containers that match your personal style. For quintessential farmhouse, look for galvanized buckets, watering cans, milk jugs, or old boots. We like this large, galvanized tub with a faux fern. You can swap the fern for your choice of greenery. Or remove the plants and use it to hold your drinks at your next gathering.

We also recommend adding longer greenery pieces to your planters, like the one below, for visual appeal.

If you want to add a little whimsy, choose items like this vintage blue truck planter, perfect for spring florals. And it comes with solar powered headlights! For tables and other smaller spaces, we love mug planters like this one with a cute bee design.

And don’t forget the wreath on your front door. Check out our selection of wreaths, from eucalyptus to wisteria to boxwood. A feather fern wreath will really dress up your door, with wispy branches and a light, fresh feel. Also consider a wreath attached to a rustic church window as a statement piece on your porch.

2 | Porch Sign

Nothing says “Welcome to Our Home” better than a sign on your front porch. Whether it says “Welcome,” “Gather,” “Home Sweet Home,” or “Hello Spring” like the one in the photo at the top of this blog post, a porch sign is a must for any farmhouse style front porch.

3 | Lanterns

Lanterns are a staple of farmhouse décor, both inside and outside of your home. Choose one or group several together on your porch. You can fill them with greenery or home accents that match the season – or leave them empty for a simple, clean look. Depending on your taste, you can use lanterns made of wood or metal.

4 | Pillows

Add some pillows to make your porch swing or other sitting areas cozy, as long as the pillows will be out of the elements. Of course, you’ll also want a throw blanket for cool evenings. Blue is a great color for outdoors in spring and summer – it symbolizes serenity and it’s a calming hue, which is what you want when you’re chilling outdoors.

5 | Door Mat

For the finishing touch, plop a door mat at your front door. Not only is it a way to welcome your guests, but it’s the perfect transition from the exterior to the interior of your home. You can go with a traditional door mat or choose a humorous one, like this door mat for dog lovers, to add some levity and get your visitors talking.
