5 Simple Ways to Transition Décor from Summer to Fall

With the first day of fall on September 23, we’re ready to welcome the crisp air, colorful leaves, and warm scents that autumn brings. We’re also ready to help you transition your farmhouse home décor from summer to fall.

Don’t worry – it’s not complicated.

In fact, you can still use some of your favorite decorative pieces and make simple switches to make your rooms feel warm and cozy.

Change Your Pillows & Wall Decor

One of the easiest ways to make the seasonal swap is change out your pillows and throws. Get rid of the breezy summer vibe and add pops of orange, brown, or gold. For a fun element, find pillows with words that relate to the season – like “Pumpkin Spice Season” or this lovely “Hello, Fall” cushion.

Bring Natural Elements Inside

Keep the vases, containers and market trays that you love and add some fall flair with pumpkins, gourds, faux leaves and sunflowers.

Replace your purple and pink florals with bolder, fall tones. Seagrass is a nice filler for fall that adds height to bouquets. Place a fall-themed wreath on your door or inside your home, like this wreath that features fall leaves, small pumpkins and berries.

Choose Autumn Colors or Go Neutral

Of course, splashes of orange, gold, and brown will make your home feel like autumn – like this decorative pumpkin.

But if you don’t like the traditional fall hues, go neutral with soft white, burgundy, and green. White pumpkins are trendy and sophisticated, and perfect for farmhouse style. Add some bittersweet and white berries, and you’re set.

These light-colored pumpkins with an aspen stem add just enough color and texture for a beautiful, fall accent.

Add Touches of Whimsy

Fall is a time for fun, so why not add whimsy to your home décor? With Halloween not far away, decorating with Jack-o-Lanterns and other spooky pieces is a given. But more general fall themes also work well, like these quirky wooden pumpkins or this red, metal farm truck.

Complete the Transition with Fall Scents

Nothing says fall more than the fragrant scents of the season. Scented candles are an easy update to your décor that not only fill your home with a delightful aroma but also add a warm and cozy feel. Certain scents also evoke pleasant memories – like grandma baking a pecan pie or your family sitting around a campfire.

Our Prairie Girl candle line’s seasonal soy candles include fall scents like Campfire Flannel, Gather, and Orange Peel and Pecan. They smell divine!
